In the last few years we have added more things to do inside and out. As well as all the animal activities, there are loads of fun things to do from Go-Karts and Crazy Golf to sand play in Digger Village and Shaggy’s Cove as well as swings, slides and climbing frames in the huge indoor Shaggy’s PlayWorld and Topsy Turvy Towers outdoor adventure playground.
The Farm offers children the opportunity to see, learn about and interact with farm animals through activities such as bottle-feeding lambs, hand-feeding sheep and goats, grooming ponies and stroking rabbits.
Mead Open Farm also holds regular special events such as Lambing Is Back, Freaky Fun Fest (Halloween) and The Magic of Christmas, and in the Easter and summer holidays there are extra activities scheduled each year. We also share special seasonal events with our visitors, such as lambing (in the Lamb Nursery) and seeing the newborn animals in the Demo Barn in the spring and summer, and the growth of our maize crop provides the ideal place for a fun maze in the summer.
Mead Open Farm was one of the first Open Farms in Bedfordshire. It spans 30 acres and is home to farmyard animals large and small. On your day out, you’ll meet sheep, cows and pigs, as well as goats, rabbits and ponies. We also have a small flock of ducks on our duckpond and hens in our henhouse. We’re also home to some more unusual large animals such as alpacas.
We want families to have a full day of fun, entertainment and education when they visit us at Mead Open Farm.
We’re delighted to announce that we have selected the much loved local charity Autism Bedfordshire as our chosen charity.
We regularly hold collections on the farm and support Autism Bedfordshire’s own events. We also provide autism friendly sessions during our December Christmas themed activities.
Further work is being carried out to make the whole of the Farm experience and special events as autism friendly as possible at all times. We have committed to working with the Adult Services Employment Team at Autism Bedfordshire by offering exciting work experience opportunities too. We are extremely proud and pleased to be working with the Autism Bedfordshire team.
